Project ShowcaseGenesee County CourthousePROJECT SCOPE
LOCATION ARCHITECT PROJECT OVERVIEW This historic building required years of planning by public officials before work began. To ensure that the integrity of this National Register building would be preserved, Sorensen Gross was selected as the Construction Manager. The project began with the demolition and removal of the old jail. This made way for the addition which housed the new adult probation and work release facility. The building is a reinforced concrete frame structure with Indiana limestone on the exterior face. The project also included the renovation of the original Courthouse. Important building materials were used in the addition to maintain the connection to the original structure which included marble wainscoting, wrought iron handrails, American Walnut interior appointments, millwork ornamentation of European origin and courtroom murals. TESTIMONIAL “The Sorensen Gross project manager, Michael O’Donnell, was a tremendous asset. His patience and understanding of the needs of the users made the experience much less painful than it could have been.” Barbara A. Menear, Court Administrator Project Slideshow
